I don’t have many addictions or vices … ‘hate gambling (can’t lose 5 bucks without beating myself up); quit smoking 10 years ago and never looked back (great story reserved for another time and place blog); drink sociably (well at least for the few months following one of those ‘I wish I was dead.’ hangovers, which I can easily get from two glasses of wine).
HOWEVER, (and you know with me, there’s always a ‘however’) … however, I do have one addiction and that is I’m obsessed with ‘registering domain names.’ Good Lord, I can just be sitting there in the middle of a great conversation with someone, when I’ll say something like this, for example: "Well don’t over-react, just wait until the dust settles." (light-bulb-goes-on expression appears on my face) "Hey, waaaait a minute … I’ll be right back." … then I whip out my laptop or get online with whatever device is closest, log into my registrar and look up ‘whenthedustsettles.com’ for example. Well darn if the name I look up isn’t already taken so I settled for the .ca version. I’m always surprised when I see that someone has been just as clever but has beaten me to the good stuff. The good stuff being ‘.com’. It just ticks me off when I’m not the first to grab the .com’s!
I registered three of those babies just today. Website? Blog? Website? Blog? ‘Not sure what format I’m going to use for them, but based on their names, they all have a lot of potential to provide a home to some pretty interesting content. But do I have the potential to live up to their names?
Hell if I know!
Note to my LVS friends: chit-chat.* and chitchat.* are all gone. ‘Not even a dang .ca to be found!
Oh, and I registered one more between the last "Hell if I know!" and this one - that makes four just in the last hour.

Well, that’s something I never thought of collecting
I think it’s great! I have 2 domains both named after my characters in a MUD I played. (google MUD or multi user domain if you’re curious)

All right, Sandy, that is a SERIOUS illness, LOL. Now I know who grabbed all the domain names when I was looking for a few a while back…

Sandy, have you checked any of the auctions for the .coms you want?
Other than that, you have me chuckling.

What a great idea! Wish I had thought of it years ago before all the domain vultures (you know, the people who buy up blocks of domain names and just sit on them) had started going nuts. I missed out on bluerosedesign.com by 2 weeks and ended up having to settle for blue-rosedesign.com. At least the owner of bluerosedesign.com does some artsy stuff……and uses her domain.
I think at this point in time all the good names are taken. Either that, or I don’t have enough imagination to think of anything good any more.

Very well done!!! I should have been talking to you the last week or so……..since I’ve said “hellifiknow” several times!! :-)) AND I’m jealous since you not only have pics…….you have even aligned them with a table!

Sliloh, Val, Barb, Nightshadow, and Joane: thank you all so much for your comments. Barb, no I don’t check the auctions; I figure if the one I want is already gone it’s for a good reason, and I should just think up a ‘better’ one.
Keep up the good work on all of your lovely sites my friends.

You mean you do the same thing, Viki? Well, I’m in good company then.
Hey, I loved your post on the importance of email: http://www.learntodoitright.com/2008/06/03/is-your-email-communication-or-lack-of-it-costing-you-sales/ Very well written.

Hey Sandy, I thought I was the only one that keeps registering domain names everytime an idea hits me. I still have domains sitting around here and there that I intend to use some day, but I never get around to it. Eventually I hope to use them.
By the way, I like your choice of colors for your blog. It is very striking!

It sounds like an expensive hobby. Interesting though.
